There are some great insights into legal innovation, collaboration, business needs and industry experience in this article by Mark W. Brennan of Hogan Lovells on law.com.

Mark stresses the importance of asking clients about their needs and that is something we do not see often enough when it comes to communication. It's often easier for a lawyer to write an article or post comments on something (a recent case, or regulatory change) that is of interest to you, without stopping to ask whether that is what your clients want to read about.

For example, as Mark says, a GC in a telehealth company will likely want to know how healthcare regulatory changes impact her sector specifically rather than getting a generic update.

It's a reminder that, before drafting any piece of thought leadership, you should start by asking: who is this aimed at, and what will they want to get out of it?
